today

beautfully overwhelming, amazing smiles, piles and piles of debris. lost family memebers, years of rebuilding to come. i'm overwhelmed, over blessed and i can't believe our time is coming to a close.

finally an update.

the sun blazing hot, curry hot enough to cook your insides the relief
camp is an amazing place. the other day i celebrated my 26th bday in
sri lanka - definitely one for the record books. amazing kids, with
smiles that warm your heart, the hunger and thirst for attention, for
knowledge. the spirit is definitely moving here and there are some
amazing things occuring. Roy and Catherine have an amazing ministry
in mercy trucks (mercytrucks.org) and are a riot to be with. today
amidst the work we caught a cobra snake and had some good fun with it
- ;-)
driving through the towns with idols along the road side you can feel
the darkness in the country displayed on the faces of the locals.
light exists and is being spread and that's our hope, that in the
midst of our work we would be a light to shine out the darkness. we
should be able to update again in about 3 days as we'll be in a town
with an internet cafe. peace to all.

hot

when we arrived last night at the airport the customs agent asked what we had in our bins - when we told him and explained it was for tsunami rebuilding - where? where are you going? he asked.
Tirrukovil
His Response, in a doubtful tone: Good Luck.

Pastor Bandu was outlining what to expect tomorrow when we get to Tirrukovil and explained that the heat there is of another kind and its fairly brutal. he indicated we would stay 7-10 days and then we would re-evaluate at that point - hinting at our ability to cope with the conditions.

it may be hot, it may be uncomfortable - but's that's why we're here. assuming we're helpful and they want us to stay we're pretty confident we'll be there the whole time.
6am we embark on our 8-10 hr journey (320 km) tomorrow to the other side of the island - apparently some British fellow has setup internet access there so hopefully we'll be able to update from the field.
peace for now.

colombo

we've made it to colombo - last night there was a taxi waiting for us at the airport, it was neat driving in - checking out the city. use your imagination of what you think sri lanka might look like - you're probably pretty close. we're staying at these dorms that the church owns and uses for orphans - its a little hidden so last night our driver - passad - had a little trouble finding it - had to ask a bunch of people where it was - thought we had it once and woke up this old man only to find out - oops not here. we got a little surprise today - we're not heading out to Tirrukovil today as we thought - in fact looks like we have 2 days in colombo which was completely unexpected. not sure what we're going to do - we're all little anxious - but perhaps this time is for us - to read, to pray, to be, to prepare further. today started the tuna diet - breakfast was a tune pouch with some uncle bens' premade rice........well off to buy some real rice and water.
peace

Nihau Ma?

Nihau Ma?

after some good rest on the plane, we ventured into hong kong in the early morning for a short walk around. the humidity is definitely something we're going to have to adjust to - back at the airport we're awaiting the second leg our journey which will take us into Colombo Sri Lanka. Not sure what internet access will be like so this could be the last update.......it's only beginning.
